The Image of the Gay Journalist in Popular Culture

anderson300Joe Saltzman, IJPC Director, will moderate a panel featured by the AEJMC Professional Freedom & Responsibility in Boston this summer. The panel is called “The Image of the Gay Journalist in Popular Culture”. As part of the panel, Saltzman will be premiering an excerpt from “The Image of the Gay Journalist in Film and TV, 1929-2009”. The event is sponsored by the Entertainment Studies Interest Group and The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Interest Group. Panelists will include Gary Hicks, Associate Professor, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville who will speak on If We Could Just Learn Not to Hate Ourselves Quite So Very Much: Gay Journalists and The Self-Perpetuating Stigma; Matthew Ehrlich, Professor, University of Illinois who will talk about The Twenty-First Century Gay Journalist: The Devil Wears Prada’; and Sammye Johnson of Trinity University whose topic is, The Lesbian Journalist as Sleuth: The Nyla Wade Mysteries.
